And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Milo kept one hand in his pocket as he sipped his drink. He hated winter. And his grandfather was always quick to tell him this was nothing compared to when he was a boy. He was pretty sure temperatures weren't supposed to get into the negatives though. He didn't want to stay outside, but he wasn't quite yet ready to go home, either. He contemplated for a moment the mall or library, but didn't really feel like dealing with large masses of people, especially since apparently "coffee shop" was a go to warm place. He supposed it made sense, but it didn't help his mood any when the morning rush lasted an extra hour because of it.
He was about to turn onto his street when he noticed an unfamiliar cat. It was cute, small and gray and seeming to be a bit scared. "Hey there. Are you lost little one?" The cat meowed indignantly before meowing again. He held up his hands in defense. "Okay... Of course you're not lost. But you did lose something, hmm?" A meow. "Your collar? I knew you didn't seem like a stray." He mused, looking through the bushes and trying to help the cat find her collar. He saw something shiny of out the corner of his eye and went over to it before looking at the cat, who was right on his heels. "Is your name Luna?" He asked her, and the cat pawed at his jeans with a happy mew. He chuckled and put the collar back on her, muttering a request to pick her up before doing so. "You're a cutie." He told her, petting under her chin

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]"Luna! Where did you run off too?" Evie let out a sigh, continuing her trek through the snow. She pulled her hood over her face more, a pout on her lips. She hated the snow, and she hated the cold. And she especially hated when Luna ran off. It wasn't as if the cat couldn't take care of herself, and she spent quite a bit of time outside as it was. But Luna had leapt from Evie's arms suddenly and took off, and Evie tried following her but had lost the cat rather quickly. The most annoying part was that because Luna was white, she tended to blend into the snow rather well. Luckily the snow wasn't deep enough that Evie wouldn't be able to spot her quickly, but it was annoying all the same. [break][break] Evie made it to an apartment complex, huffing. It wasn't super far away from her home, but it was far enough away that it would take a good twenty minutes at least to walk back. She heard an unfamiliar voice before the sound of Luna's reply reached her ears and she let out yet another sigh, heading in the direction of the voices. Her hood had fallen off her head by the time she reached where she'd heard the sounds coming from, and she pulled it back up as she said, "There you are Luna! Why did you run off?" [break][break] Luna let out a mewl, nuzzling against the stranger, who Evie only noticed at that moment. She blinked, her gaze moving up to the guy holding Luna. He was cute. Extremely cute. A meow from Luna made Evie squeak and a blush crossed her cheeks. "I was not staring you jerk! And you wouldn't have lost your collar if you hadn't run off to chase whatever it was you thought you saw!" Evie huffed, stomping her foot and crossing her arms. [break][break] She turned her attention back to the stranger, who Luna seemed very comfortable cuddling with, and gave him a small smile. "Thank you for helping Luna find her collar, and sorry if she was any trouble." Evie ignored Luna's meow of protest. "Are you a divinator too or were you just being nice?"

❧ Milo hid a chuckle behind a hand as the girl that showed up began arguing with her cat. She was pretty. He realized the pretty girl was talking to him and he snapped out of his daze. "What? Oh... yeah, no problem." He told her, a laugh escaping.
He blinked slowly, quiet for a moment, and then just nodded. "Yeah, I'm a divinator." He confirmed.
Something about her seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place what it was. After wracking his brain for a moment, he snapped his fingers. "Oh! You're Evie, right? You get a raspberry white mocha at Siren Cafe like practically every morning." He said, continuing to ramble after realizing some random guy knowing her name would probably seem creepy. "I'm uh... I'm the barista, Milo?"

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] Evie blinked before letting out a gasp. "Oh! Milo! Sorry I didn't recognize you without your uniform on." She stuck her tongue out at Luna when the cat gave her a disapproving look. She bounced on the heels of her feet a bit. Siren Cafe was one of her favorite places to go once she had discovered it. Milo was right about her getting the same thing practically every morning. It'd gotten to the point where they didn't need to take her order, and usually they already had her drink ready when she arrived. [break][break] Luna let out a meow, climbing up Milo's arm and settling on his shoulder. She butted his cheek with her head, purring. [break][break] Evie huffed, crossing her arms. "What do you mean you like him better? Luna I feel so betrayed. I raised you and this is the thanks I get? Abandoning me for someone you just met?" [break][break] Luna closed her eyes, letting out a yawn. Evie sighed, tugging her hood down when the wind threatened to blow it off. "Do you live around here?" She asked Milo, looking around. She had never really been around the apartment complex before. At one point she had considered asking her parents to move into her own apartment, but they had been against it, wanting her to stay home with them.

❧ Milo chuckled, "Yeah, that makes sense, I guess... That's happened to me a couple times with customers who go to get coffee before putting on their uniform." He followed Luna's movements as she climbed onto his shoulders and got comfortable. "She's quite the sarcastic cat, isn't she?" He said, looking to Evie. He looked up to where Evie was pointing, and then nodded. "Mmhmm... I just live in a studio there while I'm in college. My family is back in California." It was more than she asked, but that was never really a secret he kept, or even considered a secret. He pet Luna a bit as he looked back to Evie hesitantly. "So uh... how old are you, anyway?" He felt like it was weird to pause there, but he didn't really know what else to say. "I'm twenty." He added as what seemed like an afterthought. evie ● notes [newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] "I don't know where she gets it from. I certainly didn't raise her like this." Evie pouted. She crossed her arms when Luna gave her a look as if to say "who else could have raised me?" before the cat went back to rubbing against Milo's hand, letting out a purr. Evie sighed. "Traitor." She muttered under her breath. [break][break] At Milo's response she tapped her chin, humming lightly. "A studio? Oh! One of those cute apartments where the bedroom and living room are like one room right?" Evie tilted her head. She had originally requested a one bedroom but truthfully, despite her parents being well off she didn't have a lot of stuff. Clothing, yes. But she was sure she would be able to fit all of it into a single room. Hopefully. "California? What part? I've always wanted to visit but my parents don't really like me going off places by myself, they really wouldn't let me go out of state alone." [break][break] At his next question she flushed a bit, chewing on her lip. "Twenty? I'm only eighteen." She was always hesitant to tell people her age, purely because they always assumed she was younger than she was. It probably didn't help that she tended to not act her age. Evie glanced at Luna, who seemed to have fallen asleep on Milo's shoulder, and then looked back up at Milo. "Would you have guessed that? Most people don't."

❧ Milo chuckled at Evie's comments to Luna, leaving his hand within the cat's reach mindlessly. He gave Evie a strange look for a moment before nodding, "Yeah. They're cheap, and it's only me, so I don't need a lot of room." He told her with a shrug.
He pointed in a generally west direction, as if able to point out California from where they were currently. "Uh... San Francisco, pretty much. Just outside the city limits, actually." He said simply. He learned even when he just went south instead of leaving the state, no one knew where or what Daly City was. "It's alright." He punctuated his second sentence with a shrug.
He nodded in understanding. "My older brother has always been protective of me. When I told my family I wanted to leave the area for high school, he tried everything to stop me." He told her with a small laugh. "Now he just comes to visit every spring, and says that makes up for me deciding to stay through college. Give it time, maybe your parents will give in and let you go adventure."
He shook his head in regards to her last question. "Uh-uh; I would've thought either 16 or 20. I don't know why exactly, just whenever you come in the coffee shop, the times you'd come in matched with those two ages. But every time I tried to guess, you'd come at a different time and throw off my guessing." He admitted with a laugh. To say he often thought about his customer's lives outside of their morning was a bit of an understatement. Customers or just people watching, he was fascinated by the fact that people had their own individual lives, and they had their own stories. Sonder, the internet claimed it was called. Once he started, he couldn't stop. How many people that passed by him on the street had stories like his? How many were non-magic people? How many with magic? "So like... are you in college or high school, anyway? Or not in school, that's cool too." He asked her finally.

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] "Neither of those are my age." Evie giggled. But she got what he meant. Even though she went to the cafe every day, she didn't have a set time she showed up. Sometimes she'd go early in the morning, when all the students were to show up, and sometimes it was lunch hour, with those working or older college-age students. Though there were times she would come at a completely random time, like the time she showed up two minutes before Milo was supposed to be off and he scolded her for not being there all day, saying he'd been worried about her. [break][break] She rocked a bit, lacing her hands behind her back. "I doubt my parents would let me go very far without being right behind me." It wasn't a secret that Evie's parents had adopted her mostly because of the two names tattooed on her wrist. They boasted about it to their friends every chance that they could get. Heaven forbid they allow her out of their immediate protection and something happen to her. [break][break] "I go to Sacred Heart right now. It's my last year and I'm super excited to graduate~" Evie quipped. She didn't particularly dislike school, but it wasn't her favorite place to be either. She was mostly hoping that maybe once she was no longer in school, her parents would loosen the reigns a bit. "I have no idea what I want to do when I graduate though. What about you? I mean, I know you work at the cafe but is there anything else you do other than making the best mocha ever?"

❧ Milo chuckled at her comment, nodding along at her desire to get out of high school. "Maybe once you graduate they'll loosen the reigns." He told her, only half joking. "The only reason my family let me leave so young was because I was choosing to go to a bilingual school that focused on our home language. Or at least I'm pretty convinced that's why." His grandparents had been thrilled when he told them he was thinking of going to a bilingual German-English school for high school. They were a bit upset he didn't like it, in fact. He and his brother's native language was English, despite what their grandparents wanted. And though they tried to get Milo before he was speaking full sentences, it was too late to make German his native language.
"Uhh... I'm in college. But I'm paying for it out of pocket, so I'm only taking like, one or two classes a semester. So mostly I just work and perfect my mochas." He told her, a playful grin forming at his last words.

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] "Bilingual?" Evie asked, blinking and tilting her head a bit. "Is English not your first language? Do you speak another one? I've always wanted to learn another language. My parents tried to make me learn Latin but it's super boring and nobody speaks it." Evie rambled, rocking on her feet a bit. "That's cool that you know more than one language though. You must be super smart." [break][break] Evie wasn't sure what she wanted to do after she graduated from the Academy. Of course her parents wanted her to go to college, but she didn't have a clue what she would go into that her parents would approve of. Although going to college would increase her chances of finding the names on her wrist. "What are you studying?" She asked him.

❧ "Uh... Honestly I'm not sure. My grandparents were really big on my brother and me knowing German, whereas my parents were insistent on us learning English, since they moved to California and couldn't speak a bit of English, and therefore struggled. But our grandparents were very involved in raising us, so German was pushed on us a lot." He supposed that was one, somewhat roundabout way to tell someone his grandparents raised him. He shrugged at her smart comment, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I wouldn't really say that... I only kept my grades up in high school so I could keep my scholarships and stuff. Learning German was a by-chance sort of thing caused by my grandparents."
He scrunched up his nose. "Why is Latin even an offered language in schools I swear... Unless you're a linguist, why would you ever need to know a dead language?" He was able to avoid taking a language course by going to bilingual school, but he probably wouldn't gone for French if he had had to take a language. "Uh... I'm majoring in social and behavioral sciences. I want to train to become a social worker."
